A Brief Overview Of Lipo Or Liposuction
Liposuction or as it is commonly called lipo, is the surgical technique of removing excess fat located between skin and muscle by using a small stainless steel pipe/tube Latin name a cannula (cannula, a word from Latin meaning tube, reed, or cane). The cannula is inserted into small incisions in the skin by connecting to a suction pump, to suction fat deposits between skin and muscle. When the cannula is used it creates tiny tunnels through fatty tissue, once surgery is completed these tidy tunnels collapse, which improves the body’s contour.
Consultation with a cosmetic surgeon, after assessment of the problem areas lipo will be suggested. During the evaluation process you will be required to undergo blood tests and a through physical examination. Your state of health will be considered and if you can endure the surgery.
Lipo or liposuction is often indicated when the individual has an average weight, but is struggling with specific areas, usually fat deposits that are stubborn, resistant to normal dietary and exercise therapy. Genetics often plays an important part of the difficulty to remove these fatty deposits.
Areas that usually respond well to liposuction are:
The tummy area
Legs especially upper thighs
Excess fat deposits in the back area
Breasts
The waist area
The hips
And areas around the neck and cheeks
When deciding on liposuction, your surgeon will offer a choice of general or a local anaesthetic – a large majority of surgeons will recommend a general anaesthetic.
Prior to surgery the surgeon may inject fluids which will help in reducing any bruising and also thinning the fat to be removed. The fat is suctioned out of the area that is to be removed by insertion of the cannula or tube through small incisions, these incisions leave very little or even no visible scaring when healed.
Recuperation is usually approximately 10 days, during recuperation you will probably have to wear a pressure garment for approximately 6 weeks after surgery. You will be advised not to do any heavy activity whilst recuperating, for at least a month you will be required to take it easy. Pain may be experienced, some swelling and even drainage from the area. You will be prescribed antibiotics to prevent infection. Dependant on the type of stitches used they will either be removed or dissolve by them self.
After you have recuperated you will be advised to continue with exercise and correct eating to prevent a build op of fatty deposits, keeping the body toned is important to remain healthy and keep it in good shape.
