The Truth About Milk

Western society is obsessed with milk products. If you open up a typical restaurant menu, you’ll be hard pressed to find something that doesn’t contain one or several different dairy products. There’s milk on our cereal, cream in our coffee, cheese on our sandwiches, it is literally everywhere. What’s the problem you ask? Milk is supposed to make us healthy by building strong bones and providing us with copious amounts of calcium, however some facts about this creamy white substance might surprise you.

Cow Milk Is For Calves Not Humans

The vast majority of what you know and believe about milk has been planted in your head by the Milk Marketing Board. Humans are the only mammals on the planet that continue to consume milk after they have been weaned from their mothers. And furthermore, humans are the only mammals that regularly consume milk that has been produced from an entirely different species.

Milk Is Not Vital For Bone Health

Contrary to all of those celebrity endorsed milk mustache ads you see spread across the pages of every major magazine, dairy products are not essential for bone health. In fact, the Chinese consume almost no dairy products and they have one of the world’s lowest rates of osteoporosis. While Finland and the United States, two countries with some of the highest dairy consumption patterns in the world have incredibly high rates of osteoporosis. Is this a coincidence? No it is not a coincidence it just proves that fruits and vegetables are a much better source of calcium than a hearty glass of cow milk.

Drinking Milk Is Like Drinking Contaminated Pond Water

Factory farming has become the norm for milk production. That ice cold glass of milk you drink with your chocolate chip cookies no longer comes from a small farm in Wisconsin run by a diligent, honest and hardworking farmer. It comes from a giant factory of sorts, where cows are chained up in cages like expensive car body parts for their entire lives, fed a deathly potion of hormones and antibiotics to keep milk production up and hooked up to milk machines until their utters bleed. Maybe you aren’t a proponent of animal rights, but be aware that the hormones and antibiotics fed to these cows have been linked to ovarian and breast cancers, as well as heart disease and atherosclerosis.
