What are Some of the Causes of Sudden Hair Loss?

There two main causes of sudden hair loss namely genes and stress. Experiencing hair loss may be because of your genetic issues—inherited—which is not sudden but usually happens over time. Some people who are experiencing a sudden hair loss do not realize that cause of this is because of the DHT.  DHT or dihydrotestosterone is the process by which the skin in the scalp changes the testosterone of the body to DHT that eventually affects the hair growth, most especially to sensitive hairs.

Other forms of Alopecia are:

  • Alopecia Universalis—total hair loss all over the body

Treatments for sudden hair loss are hard to determine because the hair that falls off usually grows back on its own. Sometimes, Alopecia Areata is treated with Cortisone injections. Cortisone injections works by stimulating the hair follicles, which causes the hair to re-grow. This treatment is a series of injections and must be repeated once a month. The treatment has also the possibility of not working and there is no way one predict who will get the cure and who will not.

It is important to see a doctor if you are experiencing sudden hair loss. When testing, the doctor will first examine your blood to see if there is an infection or a deficiency in your hormones.
