How To Avoid Bad Breath
Few people would disagree with the fact that bad breath is an unpleasant experience for those who are close enough to someone who has a stinky breath. Many times I have been in a situation where the smell coming from someones breath has been almost overpowering. For instance, eating spicy foods, such as curries, causes bad breath.
Likewise, smoking and alcohol both give off a stinky odour to those close around them. Your breath can smell after drinking a cup of coffee as well. It seems there are lots of foods and beverages which can cause the breath to smell odorous. On the subject of how to avoid bad breath there are a number of steps each of us can take to reduce it happening to us.
1. Proper dental care. This means cleaning and flossing the teeth regularly, after meals. And, do not forget to clean the tongue as well, as bacteria can build up on the tongue resulting in a smell. Food particles left in the mouth after brushing will eventually smell.
2. Use dental floss to get at those hard to reach crevices between the teeth, where food particles can become difficult to dislodge using an ordinary toothbrush. It takes time to floss properly after brushing, but it is time well spent. It keeps your teeth healthier as well.
3. Scrape the tongue with a tongue scraper, or you can use a toothbrush. Even using a small blunt edged spoon upside down along the surface of the tongue works just as well. Unremoved food particles and plaque left on the tongue will eventually smell.
4. Smoking makes the breath smell.
5. When your mouth feels extra dry the chances are your breath smells. The best thing to do if you have a dry mouth is to drink a glass of water.
6. If you are partial to garlic and onions, the chances are your breath will smell. The oils in these foods are taken to the lungs and expelled by the breath. Taking a little parsley with these foods is said to help mask the smell of them.
7. Some medical conditions can cause bad breath and if you are not sure if this is the cause of your bad breath, it is wise to consult your GP.
I hope at least some of these suggestions will help you to avoid bad breath.
