Is it true obagi has alot of harsh chemicals in it?
February 25th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
thanks for the reply, I do have one last question..
I dont like being pale, though its better than having blemished skin, will using a sunless tanner from time to time while on obagi nu derm be a bad idea?
February 25th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
ceeloc:
Sunless tanner is fine to use on Obagi. Be aware that due to the exfoliating power of Obagi you may need to use the sunless tanner more often.

ceeloc:
Obagi is medical skincare that incorporates active/corrective ingredients. The ingredients stimulate the skin back to a healthy function and I would not classify them as harsh chemicals. A main ingredient in the program is Retin-A. If Retin-A is not started gently then you may experience some redness and flaking but the skin will gradually become acclimated. Being designed to reverse the signs of aging and sun damage you need to experience some healthy skin stimulation.

How much of the Tretinoin cream due I apply after using the Clear?
March 30th, 2009 at 9:55 am
I am african american and was using a retin a .025 %. Now that I have been using Obagi, my skin appears lighter and MORE blotchy. Is this a reflection that I need a real salicylic acid peel and just start over? Or is this a phase that will pass. I was using it to change my texture, the discoloration was really not a problem until now. Should I just hang in there?

Ideally you would mix 1/2 inch of blender with 1/2 inch of tretinoin. You can alter the ratio of blender to tretinoin depending on your skin’s tolerability.

It is very hard to comment on your response without examining you. My suggestion would be to schedule a follow up appointment with the doctor that initiated your Obagi regimen. In general, we do not see patient’s pigmentation worsen on Obagi unless they have experienced some significant sun exposure. Good luck.

Thank you so much for answering my email. Just one more question. It just seems as if I have more prominent light areas than I noticed before. Do these things usually even out? Should I use less Clear?
April 1st, 2009 at 9:35 pm
ygmd64:
The only purpose of the #3 clear is to decrease areas of increased pigmentation. From what you have described I would discontinue the clear and see how that impacts your skin. Keep in mind that the #5 Blender also contains hydroquinone (bleaching cream).

hello, does this product work for the treatment of atrophic acne scarrs? because i have seen obagi peels being advertised as capable of improving appearance of scarrs.
April 10th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Thalia85k:
The Obagi products may mildly soften atrophic acne scarring but I think you will ultimately be unimpressed with the results. The Obagi Blue Peel would offer more significant results but this option would not be my treatment of choice. The best possible responses have been achieved with fractional laser treatments, specifically the Fraxel Re:store or the Fraxel Re:pair laser.

Hi Dr. Gerrish I’ve been on the obagi nu derm for a little over 2 weeks now and still i haven’t hac any reddness peeling nor have I been itchy could it possibly be that its not working? am I the only one who doesn’t have side effects
May 6th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
MzSarahlicous:
With the Obagi Nuderm program most patients do experience some initial stimulation in the form of redness and peeling. The amount of reaction is dependent on the strength of Retin-A being used. It is not uncommon for patients starting out on Retin-A 0.025% to have very little or no reaction. You will notice more stimulation if the Retin-A percentafge is increased.

Dr Gerrish, I have large melasma spots on my arms and back. I tried using retin A 0.05% but it was too irritating despite my face loved it. Should i tried Obagi with renova? What are your input on retinoids for body parts?
thanks
June 3rd, 2009 at 3:28 am
pyrotalk:
Using the Obagi line with Renova will be less irritating. Remember the Blender only works with Retin-A (tretinoin). So if you use Renova then you will not need to mix it with the Blender.

will the blender work alone or must i use tretinoin with it, as i got the starter kit but tretinoin is not included, i am trying to bleach out pigmentation of burns

crazaychik2:
The blender is made to be mixed with the Tretinoin. If you are not using the Tretinoin then I would not bother with the blender, however the system works best when used in entirety.
