How will you know if you’re HIV positive?

Honestly speaking, getting or having HIV is the most stressful and embarrassing situation one can encounter. Although this disease has been showcased in many media-based programs on TV as well as on the internet, there are a lot of individuals who are still unaware of HIV and its effects to the body. HIV or human immunodeficiency virus is a disease that gradually destroys human’s immune system. According to WHO (World Health Organization), HIV is now considered as pandemic. ELISA or (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) test is a biochemical technique used in immunology. This test is conducted to determine the reaction of chemicals inside the body.

Once the test is positive for HIV, your blood will be tested once again this time with the use of western blot testing device. If elisa test and western blot test are both positive, then you’re diagnosed with HIV.

Symptoms of HIV:
•   Dry cough
•   Rapid weight loss
•   Memory loss, depression and other neurological disorders
•   Pneumonia
•   Recurring fever
•   White spots or unusual blemishes on the tongue, mouth and throat

Prevention is better than cure is an old yet golden saying that everyone should consider. Early diagnosis is the key to early detection and medication.
