Information on Co2 Laser Skin Resurfacing

If you are interested in a facelift because your facial features have begun to show the signs of aging, but don’t want to undergo invasive surgery, then the CO2 laser skin resurfacing cosmetic procedure is for you.  This procedure uses a laser to remove the top layer of skin, and improve the over facial appearance.  It can be used to eliminate or reduce wrinkles around the eyes, lips, mouth and forehead.  Acne scars and others, such as burn scars or surgical scars, can also be reduced.  Uneven skin, large pores, freckles and even seborrheic keratoses can be treated.  It can also be used to totally resurface the face, hands neck and chest.

CO2 laser skin resurfacing uses a laser to evaporate the water in the upper skin layer.  This causes it to slough off over the next week or so.  The laser then causes collagen to increase so that the skin will tighten and new skin will form under the old layer.  After the old skin has peeled off, it will show the tighter, smoother, younger looking skin left behind.  One nice thing about this cosmetic procedure is that it takes a minimal amount of time and is not invasive.  The area to be treated has a topical anesthetic applied, and then the laser is used.  CO2 laser skin resurfacing usually takes less than an hour to complete.

The recovery period for CO2 laser skin resurfacing is minimal.  The old skin will peel off after a few days and the temporary pain normally dissipates within 24 to 48 hours.  Returning back to work in a week or less, you will be happy with the significant improvement to your facial features.
